Clinic Services

Comprehensive Eye Service

The Dakota Eye Institute Comprehensive Eye Service provides basic diagnostic, medical, and surgical services. Included with these services are screening and treatment for common eye diseases (including cataract, glaucoma, mascular degeneration, and diabetes-related eye problems), spectacle and contact lens prescriptions and evaluation of patients who may have lost vision but do not know the diagnosis.

To plan your schedule accordingly, please know that the initial comprehensive eye exam with an ophthalmologist can take 1½ to 2 hours and will require both eyes to be dilated for complete examination, retinal evaluations and other important procedures. Dilation will cause your eyes to be very sensitive to light, and you may have difficulty seeing things well at close range, such as words on a page. Dilation can last 6-12 hours, but can vary from person to person. For these reasons, we recommend that you have someone drive you home.
